South Korea to build World's Largest Floating Dock
Seoul – The world’s biggest floating dock is not far away. South Korea's Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering said it plans to build the world's biggest floating. The decision came in the wake of growing demand for large container ships.

It is expected to be built by June 2009, which could produce six or seven container vessels per year.
The spokesman Yoon Yo-Han said, "We plan to build the world's largest floating dock due to a surge in orders. The project is awaiting approval from the company's board.”
The dock will cost up to 150 billion won (R1.14 billion). It will measure 438 meters by 84 meters approximately. Currently the shipyard has three floating docks.
South Korea is already a home to seven of the world's top 10 shipyards. It has been getting record orders, both in the previous year and this year as well. This is due to the on-growing demand for crude carriers and offshore exploration equipment amid rising oil prices.
Nothing could be better for the nation’s ship building industry as in the first half of this year only the order soared 38.2 percent year-on-year in terms of tonnage to 11.3 million compensated gross tons.
