Seatrade Awards 2007
It was a night of achievement, acknowledgement and fanfare. The who’s who of the maritime industry gathered at the London’s Guildhall on May 21 to felicitate the achievements of last year at the 19th Seatrade Awards Ceremony Dinner. This is one of the most prestigious awards in the maritime industry and winning it is regarded as an honour.

Mr. David Dingle, President of The UK Chamber of Shipping and Chairman, European Cruise Council who also was the guest of honour presented the awards. Giving away the awards Mr. David Dingle said, “The Seatrade Awards are both prestigious and worthwhile … They touch upon some of the greatest challenges faced by our industry.”
French shipowner Jacques Saadé was named ‘Seatrade Personality 2007’ for having progressively built up his CMA CGM Group into the world’s third largest container shipping company.

The RCM Voyager system invented by RCM Marine Limited, UK, won the Seatrade Award for the ‘New IT Applications For The Shipping Industry’. The award was sponsored by Inmarsat.
The RCM Voyager system is an ‘intelligent’ integration of machinery condition-monitoring supported by a web-based management reporting system. According to Bob Hargreaves, Managing Director of RCM, the developments and enhancements of their RCM Voyager product were based upon their work in the ship laboratories and onboard a vessel belonging to the Stolt-Nielsen Transportation Group – the ‘Stolt Achievement’.
Tyco Fire Suppression Group, EMEA won the ‘Safety At Sea’ award sponsored by Lloyd’s Register for its ‘SAPPHIRE Fire Suppression Systems’. The Nautical Institute, UK was runners up with their latest venture into ‘Improving the awareness of the Human Element in the maritime industry’.
Among the other awardees was Krystallon Ltd., UK, with its ‘Sea Water Scrubber’ project that won the ‘Protection Of The Marine And Atmospheric Environment Award’.
Lloyd’s Register EMEA, UK, won the ‘Innovation In Ship Operations’ award for its ‘Hull Integrity’ system.
For the seventh year, the John Ad. Hadjipateras scholarships – worth a total of £11,000 – were presented to two promising graduates, Mr Gaurav Kumar and Mr Andreas Tiniakos. Both are studying MSc Shipping, Trade and Finance at London’s City University, Cass Business School.
Applauding the winners of the Seatrade Awards, the chairman of the judges IMO Secretary-General Mr. Efthimios Mitropoulos said, “From IMO’s point of view, it has been rewarding to see the efforts that all the applicants for the Seatrade Awards have put into the preparations of their submissions and how they have focused on developing technological solutions that relate to issues at the very top of today’s maritime agenda.”
