Lloyd's Register Publishes Second Issue of 'Technical Matters'

Lloyd's Register has published its second issue ofTechnical Matters, a magazine containing a series of 10 case studies covering marine technical issues and their solutions. The case studies are derived from the work of Lloyd’s Register EMEA’s Technical Investigations, a group of specialists who provide technical investigations services to ship owners, operator and yards.
The publication contains 10 case studies, covering a range of ship types and technical issues:
  • sterntube bearing failure on a container ship
  • premature opening of a lifeboat hook onboard a tanker
  • aft slamming and whipping of a container ship
  • A-bracket cracking on a passenger ship
  • turbomachinery damage on an LNG ship
  • pod bearing performance issues on a cruise ship
  • corrosion in the pipework of a cruise ship
  • propeller blade and hub damage on a passenger ferry
  • hull modification of an existing single-hull tanker
  • fuel pump top cover failure on an oil tanker.
