The Shipowners' P&I club's cycling team is fighting fit and ready for the challenge of Tour Pour La Mer in Southampton in September. The team's leader, Commercial Director Simon Swallow, reports that as a result of last year's successful ride from Greenwich to Le Touquet, the excitement has rubbed off onto other colleagues.
"We enjoyed the event so much that we just had to take part again," says Simon. "Our enthusiasm has resulted in fellow colleagues wanting to join us. We see the event as a great way of trying to put some fitness back in to our lives, a chance for us to participate in an event as a team and to raise money for what we all see as a very important charity."
The Shipowners' P&I Club is no stranger to The Mission to Seafarers. As a Protection and Indemnity insurer to the maritime industry, the company provides the insurance for the M/V Flying Angel - the world's first floating seafarers' centre which the Mission operates around the anchorage off the coast of Dubai.
"The P&I Clubs by tradition have always tried to work more closely with the seafarers' missions and we are all very much aware of the fundamental role that The Mission to Seafarers plays in assisting and improving the lives of seafarers around the world."
The team of eight members from Shipowners' P&I have been working hard to ensure they're all fit and ready for the starting line in Southampton on Friday 28 September. The team will be joining other riders from across the world to raise funds for The Mission to Seafarers - the international maritime welfare charity that is working in over 230 ports around the world.
